Why Are High Street Brands A Rip off?

Did you know that just in the UK, Brits spend a whopping £640m on perfumes, and half of this amount is generated during Christmas. But anyway, my point is that most of the perfumes that we buy, the actual liquid inside the bottle costs less than a pound...I am serious...that’s how much it costs. The rest of the amount we pay is actually covering the over the top packaging costs, advertisement & marketing costs, and the fees the designer house pays to a well known celebrity/model to be the face of the product.
 

Honestly, I don't know about you but I don't give 2 monkeys about what the packaging looks like and who is the face of the perfume. At the end of the day, I want to smell nice and I want a perfume that lasts and at the same time I don't want to be paying £50.00 for something which only costs £1.00, and I am sure you wouldn't either.

Have you noticed the surge of celebrities launching their own brand perfumes? why do you think that is? Quite simple, it is very very profitable for them, they produce these perfumes for a very low cost and then sell them with a huge markup. The High street store Boots sells about 5000 bottles a day during peak seasons, 40% of these are celebrity owned perfumes.

This is no exaggeration, Jennifer Lopez has reportedly made in the region of £25m since she launched her brand of perfumes 5 years ago starting with Glow.

Why am I telling you all this? Well...I don't want you to waste your hard earnt cash on watered down perfumes, and fill the pockets of those who quite frankly already have a few million, if not more to their names already.

Quality of Branded Perfumes

Apart from the fact that the high street perfumes are a rip off, the actual quality is not there either. I mean, how many times have you applied a heavily advertised perfume, which you really like, but it only lasts a couple of hours? NO GOOD! The reason why that happens is because the actual alcohol content is so high in these perfumes that it ends up killing off the perfume. Alcohol is not good for perfumes because it is a drying agent and it has a negative effect on the perfume but it has to be used in order to make the perfumes sprayable.

My Search To Find An Alternative

I have always been a perfume lover and I like to smell nice, after all it’s all about image, isn't it? If you smell nice it says a lot about your image. But at the same time, I refused to line the pockets of these designer houses who were clearly "ripping me off". Not only that, some of these perfumes were really expensive, and I simply could not afford them. I was desperately looking for alternatives, I tried different things but nothing really impressed me, until a friend of mine told me about a shop who had some scent oils which proclaimed that they smelt really nice, I bought one of the body oils to try. Believe it or not, the scented oils I have on offer here are very close in smell as well as quality to the perfume oil that is used to manufacture high street perfumes. The main difference between the 2 is the price, as I have mentioned before, in the case of high street perfumes, the heavy advertising, fancy packaging and celebrity endorsements make the end product expensive and because I am not billing you for all this, I can afford to let you have your perfumes at a fraction of what they are charging.
